| About: | This mid-town theater has been a fixture of Baltimore's cinema scene since 1939- first as one of the city's many first-run movie houses and later as one of its few art houses. It has five screens, stadium style seating, and features major Hollywood releases, foreign and independent films. Along with the Senator Theater, The Charles is co-host of the annual Maryland Film Festival. |

An odd theater: The Charles always has good selection of indie and international movies. Plus interesting mix of people: older white couples and young hip yeppiwannabees (plus all their associated accessories). Beware of occasional clapping at the end of a movie (who's gonna hear you? the movie director?). Tips: either go early or buy a discount booklet (pay $70 for 10 tickets, then go with your friends, use your booklet, give them the impression that it's $8 full admission that they owe you, cash back). Use your "hard-earned" money to visit Xs restaurant on the way home for good ice cream & sushi.
love inde films: I always go here sometimes alone and sometimes with my bestfriend because we love independent films they are so much connected to reality. This place is the best because of the vibe u get when u are here
Great local indie movie theater: The Charles is a great little indie movie theater located on trendy North Charles Street in Downtown Baltimore. It has 5 screens and has been a Baltimore staple since 1939. It shows primarily independent movies but occaisionally shows more mainstream movies during the summer. The ticket prices are very reasonable- $6 for a mantinee, $8 for normal admission. Popcorn and snacks are reasonable too. They also have a coffee bar so you can get an expresso before the movie. There is also a tapas bar connected to the theater itself. If you are looking for a trendy escape from the megaplexes, the Charles is the place to go.
