Lexington Market Incorporated Business Overview

Edit Info

Company Information: Fresh meats, seafood and fruits, as well as baked goods, kosher-style corned beef and an array of international dishes can be found among the dozens of vendors at this market. The aromas and the variety of shoppers who flock to this 200-year-old market make for a colorful morning or afternoon visit. A food court surrounds a large stage, where events are held year round. Circus elephants visit the market in March, a crab race marks Preakness in May and an ice cream festival is held in July.

Saturday Morning Delight: My drive from DC to 'B'more is in anticipation of visiting the raw oyster bar located in the Lexington Market. Ice packed, and shucked before your eyes, oysters and clams abound. Using juice from freshly sliced lemons, hot sauce, and course grounded black pepper, the half-shell delights are consumed with utmost pleasure. Ahhh! Fresh baked bread! Must take some home! Who am I fooling? It will be eaten during the return drive. Of course these things can be found in DC, but I am captured by history.

I have deep appreciation and love for open air markets (some are no longer 'open air' but enclosed due to renovation), especially those having long history, and enjoy the variety of aromas co-mingling in a bustlingly atmosphere. Freshly baked breads, cakes, and pies; grilled sausages, hotdogs, and sandwiches of countless variety and in various stages of preparation; unlimited spices; fresh beef, pork, chicken; fresh fruit wonderfully displayed; freshly picked flowers in astounding arrays. Such places are not everyone
