| About: | A cafe, bar, and restaurant located in historic Mount Vernon, City Cafe, is a neighborhood favorite and a local dining destination with a distinct "New York feel." Occupying the ground floor of a 1920's architectural gem City Cafe was renovated in 2009. Featuring an ultramodern interior with mid-century accents it is a stylish and convenient spot for lunch, dinner, and brunch. Chef Chad Gauss prepares an original and broad menu of contemporary American cuisine. Using local and all-natural ingredients wherever possible the menu ranges from entrees of meats and seafood to creative sandwiches and dinner sized salads. Bar dining, sophisticated and fun, is always an option at City Cafe thanks to a wide selection of one-a-kind appetizers worthy of attention normally reserved for a dinner entree. A perfect prelude to a night at the Meyerhoff, Lyric, or Center Stage City Cafe is a theater-goers reliable pick. Diverse and distinct, City Cafe is Baltimore's place to "Dine, Drink, Caffeinate." |

While the food here is generally fresh and well prepared, the slow service and horrible attitude of the management make this a place to pass up. On multiple visits (when the restaurant was not full), food took over 25 min to arrive (no salad, no bread, nothing). This is simple food- salads, pork chops, steaks, etc. Anyway, I spoke to one of the co-owners (Bruce), who told me that I should allow 2 hrs for my meal and that they are very busy. He even said "we are busy for a reason." What a pompous statement! There are many other hard-working restauranteurs who will work hard for your business- let these people insult someone else and pick a better place.
poorly run restaurant. get some knowlegable staff.
City Cafe: I have been going for there years and I think the food and atomsphere are great I recommend it to all my friends. I have never had a bad meal or service there.
