Thai Restaurant

A Jewel in Uptown: Thai Restaraunt has been around for years and has won many awards for its cuisine. And rightfully so - from the minute you sit down you smell the aroma from the foods around you. Everything is a winner - from the Pad Tai, to the Big Threes to the Thai Iced Tea. And what adds to the wonderful experience, the owner and managers remember you no matter how long it's been.

a shadow of its former self.: if you remember thai restaurant from its award-winning glory days, i'm
sorry to have to recommend that you stick to savoring your memories and
eat elsewhere.

last night, my partner and i wanted to attend a 7:30 concert a few
blocks away, and thought we were safely ordering when we sat down at
6:00. we ordered two simple entrees, and waited. and waited. and
watched the minute hand go round and round.

we watched a dozen people walk in and leave with box after box after box
of carry-out, while we and the other dining patrons sat and stared at
our iced coffees, occasionally reassured by the maitre'd (/owner?) that
our orders were just coming up.

we should have given up, but decided to stubbornly stick it out. our
two simple plates finally arrived at 7:05. mine was cold, and appeared
to have been sitting in the kitchen for quite some time. everything was
poorly prepared with noticeably inferior ingredients. my partner's dish
consisted mostly of inedible chunks of a pale green iceberg lettuce i
would have been embarrassed to serve in a college dorm. this was not
what he expected for $13, but we came in hungry and, by then, would have
eaten the tablecloth if it had been curried.

rather than make ourselves sick with gorging, we took our time eating,
gave up on the concert, and just headed home.

if they're making as much money as they appear to be making on
carry-out, they need to open a second kitchen and make it a separate
business next door so the cooks in the dining room have time to make
acceptable food again. until that happens, you'd do better to take your
hunger to the pizza/sub shop across the street.

going downhill?: We went out for dinner on a Saturday night. It was only a party of 3. The service was horrifically slow. Everyone in the restaurant was complaining, many of them vocalizing their displeasure to the staff. I have no idea why it took them 1.5 hours to bring our dinner to the table. The food was great, as always, but the service that evening makes me think I will not be coming back. When one person did complain to the manager, the manager was defensive and not at all apologetic.
