Last night my husband and I took our 3 year old to her first movie, which I thought she would love because we had decided to take her to a drive in as well. I had checked out the site and thought that the prices were great and the drive in itself looked pretty good. We had this planned for a few days, but it wasn't until yesterday that I checked out any reviews. I came across one bad one, but figured that was normal. Long story short: I have never had/seen anyone yell/argue with us or anyone else for that matter, the way these people did. They are very anal and EXTREMELY rude to their patrons. After paying $16 to see the late movie, my husband wanted to stay because if you leave for any reason, you can't get your money back. I will NEVER go back there. We'll stick to regular cinemas and renting movies. The money you save isn't worth the aggravation.

LOVE this place; try to come a few times a season (it's about 1.5 hrs from me). Always worth the drive. Very family-oriented, old-school place. You can't beat the laid-back, nostalgic atmosphere, & the owner's love of film is contagious. Plus, can't beat $8 for three movies!

As for the woman complaining about paying for a food permit (& the weather?), it is VERY reasonable-- a bucket of nasty popcorn at a mall theater will run you $7. Food markups are key to theaters surviving. Here, they thought up an option that keeps them solvent but allows you to bring whatever food you want. It is a business afterall. Also, if they can't let people sit in running cars for the length of several movies, because of carbon monoxide risks. I always check the weather b4 heading out, since obviously that's a factor for an outdoor venue.

I have taken my children to driveins before but this was the worst experience we have ever had.
We went on a day that was 100 degrees outside and they insisted that we not turn on the air conditioning in the car for my two year old who was exausted from the heat. We conceded to their request and sat outside of the car but when it began to pour we asked again if they would mind if we turned on the air since they had no airconditioning in their building. We were told that we could not and that they had no sympathy for the baby!!! Quote from the manager: "I get paid either way"!!! We couldn't sit outside of the car since it was pouring and we could not turn on the car for the airconditioning! They would not even give us a refund!
You can't bring food inside unless you pay for a permit! You can't leave and come back for any reason or you have to pay again! and no matter what they will not give you a refund!
I DO NOT RECOMMEND this place to anyone!!!

The Bengies is very upfront with their rules. You can't run your engine during a drive-in movie. This is a rule that benefits everyone else. Also, in a day when most drive-ins have shut down since running a drive-in theater that only can run half the year isn't a huge money-making business, I can't blame them for asking people to buy food inside or pay for a permit.
