Amazing food! My wife and I are from Virginia, and wandered into Maria's. We sat at the bar and the bartender (Matt) was great. We loved the service and food so much that we went back the next night and sat at the bar again. If we ever go back to Annapolis we will be back at Maria's.
My Fav Restaurant: very romantic and very tasty! I love this place, I recommend that you sit outside so you can enjoy the street traffic of Annapolis and see the beautiful water.
I went there on Mothersâ Day with my husband and two month old son. Before we even sat down, I could tell they didnât want us there. The staff did nothing overt, just hemmed and hauled a bit about the difficultly of seating us, but eventually did. Of course, by this time, my two month old had started crying a bit. As soon as we were seated, my husband immediately took our son out of the stroller and attempted to soothe him. This task was more difficult than usual because our son had just received shots. Soon, my husband passed my son to me, and we realized that we would not be able to fully enjoy our meal as one of us would have to hold our son at all times if we didnât want him to cry. As we wanted to enjoy our meal without a crying baby, and wanted others to enjoy their meals, this is what we did. This meant that we had to order finger food off the appetizer menu to eat with one hand, but this was fine with us.
Unfortunately, this arrangement was somehow not fine with the staff at Mariaâs. I donât know if it was the crying baby (since quieted) or our perceived cheapness for not ordering a full entrée, but something made the staff discriminate against us and give us poor service. Iâm not sure how to say this without sounding petty. Itâs not like they made nasty comments or spit in our food. They just made us feel very unwelcome and treated us in a way unlike the way I saw them treat other families and mothers. But this is what discrimination is. Sometimes it is a direct comment like âwe wonât serve you or your crotch fruit,â and sometimes itâs an unspoken hostility that makes a person feel like a second class citizen without being able to exactly say why. If you donât understand what I mean, Iâm glad. It may mean you have never experienced something like this. And I donât want you to. I donât want other mothers to go through a similar experience.
Before sending this, I have contacted Mariaâs to see if perhaps I was under a misunderstanding. They have not commented.
