I have to disagree with the negative reviews, I've always had a wonderful experience at The Big Cheese. Their more expensive baguettes are worth the extra $2 and I've always found the additional price clearly posted.
The sandwiches are amazing. I highly recommend the Annapolitan - a brie, honey mustard, turkey and apple sandwich. For the less adventurous they have more standard sandwiches too. They also have a nice cheese selection and have always been helpful when trying to find something new by offering samples of the cheeses and suggesting wine pairings.
The Big Cheese is great because it has a range of sandwiches from gourmet to just tasty. You can find something for adults and kids. I highly recommend.
I would recommend this to anyone that likes specialty sandwiches! they are yummy-delicious. My son, who was attending a private school nearby, highly recommended this to me. He and his basketball buddies would go there and order a sandwich before practices, before (hopefully) hitting the books - brain food. I have found every sandwich I have tried quite delicious. My cousins and I go there to grab a bite to eat when we're in "sammy" moods. I certainly would not not go because of the service -- not every doctor has a good bedside matter -- so to each his/her own but they have always been friendly, even when I brought a group of middle schoolers there. Again, it's one of those places that I would tell people to stop in to grab a sandwich (note: no dining in) and enjoy the city docks - even on a cool winter's night.
I don't know why everyone wrote such bad reveiws about this fabulous, sucessful gourmet shop. The owners are great!
I have returned time and time again and bought wine and cheese; the cheese by the way is fantastic. The bread is fantastic; I felt like I was in Paris sitting near the Eifel Tower. Their amazing "goodie" bread has a sign that reads $2.00 extra to have a sandwich made on the bread. The owners and the sign make it quite clear.
I shop The Big Cheese often and the owners know my name, just like "Cheers".
All I can say is I can't wait to go there again.
