Atmosphere is good and the owner seems very accomodating. The food however was very bland. Chips and salsa are an extra charge and we asked for more of the olives and were charged for those too. We had fajitas and the tortilla wraps were dried out and hard. The salsa and guacamole definitley need more flavor.
I have been a regular patron of Jalapeno's for at least six years. Always warmly greeted, the food superb, and Gonzalo, the owner, the most
accomodating restauranteur I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. If you don't like spicey food or have a special diet, simply ask him and he will have the chef prepare something to your liking. How many restauranteurs do you know that would do that with a smile and pleasure to serve as Gonzalo. The price of the dishes are amazingly reasonable. The tapas all delicious and many to choose from.
Last week was the closing of the Renaissance Festival and as a seasonal business owner there each year I host a catered dinner at my home on closing night for about 15 - 22 people. This year I dropped in and spoke with Gonzalo about catering for 15 - 20 people. I ordered everything from Conqueso and chips, Salad, Fried Plaintains, two kinds of Enchilada Verde (one vegetarian), and his trademark Tres Leche Cake
with Fruit Sauce. Yum! The cost was under $200. My friends and I are still having some of the dishes for lunch this week.
My good friend Jeanne, who introduced me to Jalapeno's, and I spoke
towards the end of the festival, and I would just like to add that I could
only wish I had said the words myself: "If we all go to heaven we are sure that Gonzalo will be there waiting for us". Jeanne' B. from Crownsville
This restaurant was not the best experience for me and my boyfriend. He was trying to take us out to a nice restaurant, and the atmosphere was nice but that was about it. The food was incredibly bland. We ordered 4 tapas, and they were ready in less than 10 minutes, and it was obvious it was not fresh food. The service was not great, no one asked how the food was or for refills on drinks, or if we wanted dessert. For the price, this place is definitely not worth it. I guess they are the best, but only, tapas around. My suggestion, go to DC for real tapas (Jaleo).
