Having lived near Havre de Grace all of my 60 plus years I have been going over to Northeast since I was a toddler. I have watched itâs transformation from a sleepy little fishing town on the water to a quaint tourist destination. The introduction of fine eateries with sidewalk cafes and antique shops for browsing has been a pleasantly remarkable change.
However, there is a problem and this is not the first time I have experienced this problem and I have talked to others who will no longer go to the Northeast cafes because of it.
Last night (August 22, 2007) I decided to take an out of town friend to Steak and Main for a relaxing dinner and good conversation. We decided to sit out side for our dinner. The food was great the service excellant, however.
At least 5 or 6 times âHells Angelsâ types decided to roar the engines of their motorcycles, for no apparent reason what so ever, right in front of all of the sidewalk cafes. One, a young man on a particularly noisy Harley did it twice each time looking right at us as we sat there. One time while going South on main street and then he came around the bank, crossed main street and roared it as loud as possible as he shot down the alley between Steak and Main and Woodies. The echo made everyone out side in both establishments hold their ears. This was his intentional way of getting some attention. My ears are still hurting this morning as a result.
When I was a young man running around in a â56â Ford back in the 60âs I one time got a ticket in Northeast for having mufflers that were too loud. What ever happened? Compared to the ear splitting noise I suffered last night, my Ford was quiet. It seems today the town of Northeast has no noise abatement laws at all. Apparently you think it is âcoolâ to have these cruising bikers add their ear splitting noise to the ambience.
It wouldnât be so bad if these were just bikers passing through town on their way to Elk Neck or something. These are locals who spend their evenings in the summer disturbing the peace and quiet of your scenic area. I know this because when I sit there and see the same 4 or 5 bikers several times within a 2 hours period I know they are just cruising around the block.
The word is getting out that Northeast out door cafes are âNotâ the place to go for a quiet dinner.
Great, we've become "regulars": The quality of the food is fantastic. The service will work with you...
If you want to take your time and have a nice relaxing meal they will accomodate. If you want to get a quick bite they will do that too.
For good service I would reccommend that you ask for Donna as your server; as she takes real good care of ya. It is pricey but I do agree with the 'you getmwhat you pay for mentallity" . The oysters are out of this world. The Shrimp & Lobster Mornay will land you in divorce court if you only share one bite with your spouse.
good food -- bad service: Awesome food but the sevice was terrible. MISERABLE BARTENDER!!!! WON'T BE BACK! It's ashame because the food was so great. She (don't even know her name because she failed to say two words...) should get out of the "service" industry. I wish Steak and Main had a website so I could contact the owner.

PLEASE! It is NOT the towns fault or the merchants fault that the "BIKERS" chose to go to town. Relax, give it another try and don't be so hostile. Maybe a drink at Woodys to calm the road nerves would help.
