Twice in the last week I happened by to try the fish and chips. The fish was grouper, fresh ... and the chips were so hot you coulda warmed your hands. And more than an ample share, to boot.
This place has been spot on as far as I've been able to tell. Granted, this is a small sample ... but not in England have I had better.
Just back from a 3rd try. Not quite so ample, or hot. Still have to stick with 4 stars. Next trip will be the deal maker/breaker. To be fair, it was a busy Friday night with intertainment.
After reading the 3 negative comments in a row, I was ready to pass this place up. But my wife pointed out that the comments were about service, a long time ago -- nothing about the food. I was very glad I listened to her!
The Maryland-style steamed blue crabs are the signature dish here, and we drove a few hours to HH just for them. We arrived at 2:30pm on a Saturday when we knew it wouldn't be crowded, and they got our order in to the steamers right away. Perfectly cooked! (Steaming crabs always takes 20+ minutes, unless you go somewhere where they are pre-cooked and microwaved.)
We wound up talking to the owner, and she (her family's owned the place 37 years) said that with only 2 steamers on the premises, sometimes customers get backed up. If you show up at regular suppertime and two orders are in the queue before you, you WILL wait an hour. (But -- it'll be worth it.)
Best crabs we've ever had north of Baltimore. Good price, friendly staff. But if you get there when there's a dozen people waiting for seats ahead of you -- which was how it was when we left -- then, you planned wrong.
my boss took a group of 14 there for xmas. I was GOD awful. The service was the worst that I have ever had and the food was terrible. A good many of us had crab cakes and there was more shells then crab. I we asked for anything the waitress was rude and acted like it was too much trouble to get bread or a drink. My boss paid very well for nothing and I know that she won't take us back there again. They just wanted us to eat the main couse and leave, got pissy when we asked for coffee and desert. If iI could give thm 0 stars I would.

Crab cakes are hit-or-miss ... we had a small appetizer of them while we waited for our steamed crabs, and they were meaty (not too much filler or seasoning) with a nice crust. We also took an extra dozen crabs home with us, my wife ate 4, and extracted the food from the other 8. All edible parts from 8 mixed-size crabs totaled 6-8 ounces of meat, late in season (when they're heaviest). So if you show up at Xmas-time, you know (1) those aren't from fresh crabs, which are out of season, and (2) possibly the crab cakes are prepared offsite, and (3) you didn't say what time you got there, but I can't imagine how they got 14 seats together in that place. It's not a corporate setting -- like a Ramada dining room.
