I don't recommend shopping her unless you HAVE to. The prices are raised to unreasonable proportions and the staff are not knowledgable nor helpful. I went on a Saturday afternoon to get supples to make a cupcake tower. It was my first time, yet no one acknowledged me and acted too busy to help. I bought four cake boards and the total came out to $25. More than I expected...also I was going to buy styrofoam dummies but each one cost about $5. I found them online for only $1 each!! Please be careful. When I asked the cashier if there were less expensive options she looked at me with a blank face. Please order online if you can!
I recently rented a cake riser for a wedding cake. I went to the new location after work. Even though it was busy, Fran was really friendly to everyone and was able to take time with all her customers. When I returned the riser she was just as friendly, and asked about the wedding. The riser was gorgeous. The store had a HUGE supply of cake, candy, and cookie accessories.
Fran's Cakes and Candies has the best selection of cake making and candy making supplies in the area. Just don't go to the store with your children as they are not welcome (even when they are behaving as they should) and they are sure to get a mean glance or even a scolding for even looking at a product from the unfriendly staff. Come to think of it, they aren't all that friendly to the adults either.

I am in Fran's Cake & Candy at least once a week and have never gotten the feeling that children are not welcome...in fact, quite the contrary. As a patron, I've seen unsupervised children behaving like they were at a playground, not a place of business. I find it hard to believe that a scolding was issued for "looking at a product." My experience is that the staff is exceedingly friendly and helpful.
No, I agree, the owner (who is not Fran - Fran retired and sold the store) is great with kids and is no problem, but one of her friends and employee's is HORRIBLE with kids. She is unfriendly PERIOD. I was actually going to say something to the owner about it as I'm sure it's turning some people away - as we all can order online versus buy in person.
I'm a patissier and shop at Fran's frequently. It comes highly recommended. Some items are more expensive, but I have always found the staff to be agreeable and accomodating. They are excellent and prompt with special orders. If you pay a little more for some things, so be it, the store is easily accessible, convenient and owned by someone who loves pastries. This is what inspires us to cook, at all . . . people who love it. As for your children and this posting, this is ridiculous. What person, in his right mind, would be scolding a well behaved child? I am always amazed that, behind the annonymity of the Internet, people feel not only comfortable, but justified in hurling outrageous accusations at others. You should take it down and turn your cautiously critical eye toward the behaviour of your children.
