Fortune Chinese Seafood Restaurant, in this relocated to Seven Corners Center on Route 50 reincarnation, is still run by one of the partners of the original Fortune on Route 7 (when it was a sensation, since 1983). This confers an invaluable assurance of great taste and original menu creations. We came to enjoy the dim sum today (Saturday), when the push carts only run between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM. By 1:35 PM, the wait was negligible.
As expected, the kitchen presented products of its creative genius to differentiate it from the routine, rote dim sum menus: such as exquisitely done chive dumplings, shrimp eggplant, shrimp-stuffed mushroom.
While we were thrilled by the creative, non-traditional-dim-sum dishes presented, I am sad to note that took the kitchen’s attention to detail away from providing consistent excellence for the more usual, traditional dim sum offerings. For instance, the shu mai was too compact and dry, the shrimp paste-filled fried taro pasties overcooked, as was the meat-filled version.
On the other hand, the black bean sauce clams were outstanding, as were the salt-grilled shrimp, green beans, ha gow, etc.
Service was superb, with discreet yet finely attuned attention to our needs.

Excellent.: The food is great. I love the push carts from 11am- 3 pm. You can chose from a great assortment of dishes with small portions and go back for what you really enjoyed, and you will. There is something for everyone here, even my fussy daughter. It is loud and busy on the weekend. Be prepared to wait if you are not seated before 11:15. Some of the servers are slightly pushy, just remember they are only doing their job which includes trying to get you to try as much as possible so you will be hooked as I am.
