I used to live in Albuquerque, New Mexico and I used to eat at a a place called Sadie's down off 4th Street. Wonderful Wonderful mexican food! And I feel I am an expert in this area as I was raised in Austin, Tx. Also Lived in San Antonio and Tucson and Pheonix. There are good mexican food places in each of these locations. They have all have their own style but very good. However I have to say I prefer the New Mexican "green chili" mexican food..a flavor that stands out above the rest. I cannot wait to go eat at Sandia Cafe as it might be MY new mexican food place in this area.
Love It: Sandia Cafe is amazing. The food is so authentic. I have been many times and everything I have gotten has been perfect. Their salsa is delicious. I have not been able to find any other place that makes salsa as well. They have a good drink selection and the service is very good. The atmosphere is very nice. Subtle but not boring. The first time we went we had a group of 15 and they did an excellent job handling it. Definently recommend it.
Fulfilling a Pregnant Woman's Craving for B-fast!: I had an intense craving for mexican style breakfast burritos that I was used to having as a little girl when I grew up in San Antonio...I did a search in woodbridge on the laptop at 3am and vowed to find some place worthy of my $$$. Sandia cafe came up and at 8am the same morning you better believe I was right there ready to order 2 or 3! I was surprised they had my chorizo/egg/potato burrito and more surprised that they were a lot bigger than I anticipated (that however didn't stop me from eating all 3!).
I have only eaten breakfast there but plan to go back for dinner and a mojito after I deliver in December. I'd recommend it, especially if you need a place to sit down for breakfast and actually enjoy the most important meal of the day.
It is an older place, but the ambiance and food is most certainly New Mexico-Southwest Style...it is not simply Mexican or Tex-Mex although you may get some of the same dishes. If you are looking for something out of a Don Pablos menu, don't go...but if you are looking for authenticity and quality, you should make an effort to give this place a chance!
