A group of my friends went here last week, and were very disappointed. As someone mentioned in a review earlier, we had a bunch of extra stuff added on our bill that the waiter and menu said were not included. That was odd considering we got the supposed full 4-course package, and we all got the same thing. Nothing extra. But after 4 hours, we weren't in the mood to spend more time arguing about the bill.
On to the food...not good. You don't start with bad ingredients and turn them into something delicious. From the stale bread during the cheese course, to the barely defrosted shrimp and very fatty cuts of beef, to the barely defrosted cheesecake and pound cake for the dessert, this place thinks that dipping food in cheese/oil/chocolate makes everything wonderful. It doesn't. Good ingredients make good food.
Sure, if you are a single guy trying to get buns, this might be a good place. They have cozy spots to sit, and the price seems impressive to someone who has never eaten at a good restaurant. Get real. For the same price, you can do a lot better in this area.
Arrogant Servers and Misleading Prices: Our family and friends recently visited this particular Melting Pot. We had our children with us and we all ordered, per our waiters recommendations, as the menu is too confusing for first time visitors (cost and amount of food). He spelled everything out for us, which we figured would be fine, but it wasn't.
The cheese fondue was great. However, the main course, which included raw meat that you had to boil just ruined the experience. How often do you get a great cut of beef or even ahi tuna, and boil it? Not much fun for us. We would rather had the items cooked to our specifications and then had something do dip them in afterwards.
When we received our bill, there was an extra $70 on the bill for items that he stated were additions, yet they were listed as inclusions on the menu. We asked to look at the menu and we were correct. The server took it upon himself to jack the bill up for us. Even though we showed him that we were correct, he still argued that the extra charges were correct, as he supposedly added a little extra cheese and other items (we didn't see any extras). Regardless, we finally had our bill adjusted and we left.
The server was very arrogant and it ruined the experience for us. I never frown at spending money on quality dining. However, I get slightly aggravated when I feel that I am getting ripped off. In addition, we were all still a little hungry when we left, so we had to have some snacks when we got back to our condo.
I will never enter this establishment again.
Fondue Anyone?: I've been to the Melting pot 3 or 4 times, always with just one person. They were friendly and personable when making the reservation.
Had early reservations and were seated quickly after they validated our parking. Had cocktails (really awesome raspberry martini) that were really wonderful.
We shared the Fondue Feast, had sirloin, 2 types of chicken, ravioli, shrimp and filet. Also comes with veggies which I had a piece of potato, broccoli and squash but really we only wanted the meat! The food was cooked in the coq au vin style and we had the Quattro Formaggio cheese fondue to start. I didn't prefer this cheese fondue to others I'd had, but it was still good.
Dessert was the real star...the Torino dessert fondue which was milk chocolate with crushed hazelnuts...served with biscotti, pineapple, strawberries, brownies, marshmallows and a few other things. I drank a good cup of coffee along with it and was in sheer heaven. I think I'll be going there for dessert more often! Yum!
The only small problem was a large group of women was seated in the next section over, and once they were seated our service level went down considerably. I don't really blame the waiter as it takes a lot to do the fondue thing and get everyone educated on what to do and get ordered.
The setting is perfect for an intimate dinner, most of the seating is semi secluded so you don't feel like someone is listening in on your conversation.
This was a great place and I'll definitely go back. Its an experience...be prepared to spend about and hour and a half to two hours...goes quickly but its worth every penny!

Yes, you are supposed to get raw meat and boil it at a MELTING POT. Go somewhere else if you want your orders cooked to the specifictions you desire.
