We ate here recently and I was not impressed. I have eaten at the Sakura in Fredericksburg for years and always get a great meal there. I decided to meet a friend here for dinner because it was a half way point for each of us. The staff was nice, but the food wasn't all that good.
I ordered the filet and chicken meal. The soup was ok, the salad was good, not the usual ginger dressing, but very good. I ordered the chicken liver appetizer, which in Fredericksburg comes with a teriyaki flavor and sesame seeds. This one was very bland and boring. The rice was way too salty. The vegetables were good with some added yellow squash and red pepper along with carrot, broccoli, zucchini and onion. The stir fry vegetables and the salad were the high point of the meal. The filet was ok, but not great and the chicken was totally flavorless. I won't be back to this location again, but will return often to the Fredericksburg location.
they have very good food and the chefs are nice puls they can cook
Tried to go to this restaurant on Saturday and it didn't even look like a Japanese Steak house. It looked more like Chuck E Cheese's. There were so many people, with screaming kids. The wait was 45 mins and there were people everywhere even sitting on the floor. When I went, I was looking for some good food in a quiet but entertaining atmosphere. This used to be found at Sakura but not any longer. They are like every other commercial restaruant in Woodbridge now. :(

After I read your review, I was a little concerned and have a couple of questions and suggestions. How a Japanese Steak House is supposed to looks like? Since you took the liberty to make the comment, I automatically assume that you'd been in Japan. There is no similarity between Chuck E Cheeses and Sakura. We live on a democracy, if the kid's noise bothers you, DO NOT GO TO A FAMILY RESTAURANT. There are plenty of upscale and over priced Japanese Restaurants in the Crystal City and DC area, the kind you like with the "good food in a quiet but entertaining atmosphere" you were looking for, the kind that puts a hole in your wallet also. I hope I simplified your issue. :-)
I lived over 15 years in Japan. I have been to Mishima Prefecture and Towada Prefecture where the steak houses caters to all. The ambiance on a Japanese Steak House...or Yaki-niku tei is very relaxed. Mostly you sit on the tatami and there is a grill in the middle of the table that you cook your food. Sakura is an american version, of teppan-yaki. If you want authenticity...may I suggest Tachibana in Fairfax City. It is owned and operated by Japanese os the food is really authentic and the ambience is like a Japanese restaurant should be, but be prepared to pay.
