I frequent this restaurant due to convenience until I brought my kids and family there. Apparently, if toddlers count towards the 6 person count and thus the mandatory 18% tips. If you dare to give one penny less than the mandated 18%, you will get in trouble. NOT A FAMILY FRIENDLY PLACE TO EAT!!!
Amazing Thai food! The drunken noodle with chicken is the best I have had in this area. Panang and pad thai are pretty good too. Wait staff is pretty on top of things considering how busy it can get at lunch. Never had to wait for a table though!
I've been going to this place for years. It never fails. The chef is very consistent in quality. Whenever I bring people from out of town here they are very happy.
Great place: Out of the three thai places around the plaza I like this one the best. I'm currently in love with the thai tea, yellow curry, and coconut soup there. The decor is comfortable too. And it's not too pricey. Service is usually great.
p.s The name of this restaurant isn't "Sawatdee Vegetarian Thai Restaurant" so don't complain when they don't have vegetarian dishes. Eat somewhere else..DUH
Love this place: I may be biased cause I've been a frequent customer for a while now, but this place never gets old for me. I don't know about other peoples experiences but the hostess has always been sweet to me. Having been in a asian dominated workplace myself I can understand why some americans can interpret conversations with asian workers as being rude. Especially for those who don't speak much english (their responses tend to be very abrupt and short and asians are taught that looking someone in the eye is rude). But then again every restaurant has their bad days.
Anyways the noodle dishes are it for me, especially the drunken noodle chicken. The food is full of flavor and the specials menu has some interesting dishes as well. I'd definitely recommend this place!
Food is decent, but the service ...: Sawatdee is a neighborhood restarant for me -- and as I love Thai food and culture, I'm naturally drawn to it.
Yet although I have visited over the years at least twice a month, the hostess staff is not just inattentive, they are positively hostile. This is so contrary to the experience in most Thai establishments, I don't know why Sawatdee employs such people or doesn't correct their business-dulling behavior.
Right now, I'm going to order from Singh Thai, another Thai restaurant about 1 block away from Sawatdee where the food is very good and service is nice.
I recommend Singh Thai for all Swatdee customers!
Vegetarians can forget about this place: Vegetarians can forget about this place. It is very difficult to get through to the waiter, waitress or the manager with what you expect in vegetarian fare. The response I got was 'We have vegetable dishes but we cant guarantee that it wont contain animal/fish based products'.
I have read that this is because THAI cuisine always uses fish sauce.
When asked whether you can make it without fish sauce, they said they would make me the pad-thai but the pungent odor with which it came to me was unmistakably fish.
Best Thai Restaurant in the area!: This is the best Thai restaurant in the area hands down. The food is delicious and plentiful and very reasonably priced. The kitchen is very fast in getting the food out to the customer. The waitstaff is very courteous and attentive.
