Jaxx Nightclub

I'm not rating Jaxx low because of the musical acts because the artists that come through are great. I enjoy the music a great deal! My rating is poor because of the staff at Jaxx. First off the staff does not wear attire that identifies themselves as staff. The second complaint is that staff is not consistent with enforcing these supposed "rules" of the establishment. These supposed "rules" are very vague and can vary situation to situation, however what "rules" are in effect for which show is not outlined on the calendar for that particular event nor is it stated on the day of the event. The bouncers will use force when force is not necessary or warranted. They allow drunk and disorderly persons to interfere with other attendee’s enjoyment of the show. Also some staff members are extremely rude and cannot communicate on an adult level. Perhaps it is because of the rush of youngsters they get at the establishment, but that is no excuse for this behavior. I was planning on attending more shows at this venue, but because of the fascist authoritarian behavior exhibited by some of the staff I will not be attending another show here!

LOVE IT!!: Got to check this place out. IT ROCKS!!!
I have seen bands like Over Kill, Testment, Wasp. And local bands like Krass Jugement, Bloodlines.

You get what you pay for: If you live in the Northern Virginia area and want to see any metal show, you're stuck with Jaxx. Sure the 9:30 club exists, but Jaxx has become especially aggressive with booking metal bands from Europe and making sure that tours go through them at least once.

Some bands that have visted Jaxx: Opeth, Nile, Nevermore, Behemoth, Paradise Lost, Hate Eternal, Arch Enemy, Lacuna Coil, Enslaved, and King Diamond to name a few.

Jaxx is located within a busy shopping center that contains various ethnic restaurants, a gas station, a 7-11, and various other shops. So parking is extremely limited when the show is sold out. And believe me, shows do sell out, so be sure to purchase a ticket ahead of time if you anticipate one of your favourite bands showing up with a strong line-up.

You will rarely interact with any of the staff at Jaxx. The bouncer at the door checks your ID and your ticket, if you already have one, or takes money for a ticket purchase. After this, you won't see anyone else unless you want something to drink or if you cause trouble.

The crowd at Jaxx is usually saturated with not only the typical groupies, but also intellects, geeks, rockers, and sometimes even the average Joe. Jaxx does get very smokey, so if you have allergies stay away! It is a small venue compared to some other places, but bigger than most. When the show sells out, don't expect any room to be left in the standing area up front. You'll most likely be pushed into the back by the aggressive fans trying to get a glimpse of the singer or guitarist.

The crowd generally doesn't mosh that much and Jaxx has some decent security on hand in case things get out of hand. But as always, if you sense trouble, try to get back. In such a large, thick crowd, you can't expect security to immediately jump in and try to help.

Some of the shows are grossly overpriced, but only when a big-name band comes to play.
