Even after wars end, the lingering presence of landmines and other explosive remnants of war present an immense challenge to the restoration of normalcy. Sadly, tens of millions of these hidden killers are in over 60 countries around the world. They injure and kill thousands of people annually and inhibit social-economic development. MLI's programs include the development, expansion and sustainment of the Mine Detection Dog Partnership Program (MDDPP), which provides Mine Detection Dogs (MDDs) and training to local demining authorities to accelerate the pace of landmine clearance operations; the Survivors' Assistance program, which helps those those who have been injured by mines; and the Children Against Mines Program (CHAMPS) which promotes global citizenship and links American youth with youth in mine affected countries.
