Pohanka Honda ---
Today (11 June 2009) was my second visit to Pohanka Honda. My first was about a year ago when I bought a cabin air filter. The parts guys were so nice--and patient with a "little old lady" who really didn't know what the heck she was asking for. Because I own a Honda, I don't have a lot of reasons to visit the service department, but I had to today.
A headlight went out about a month ago (I've been avoiding driving at night!). I thought, how hard can it be to change a light bulb? I oncechanged an entire light on my previous car--a Civic--so I bought a bulb. Well, changing a bulb on a Honda Accord is not like changing a bulb in my bedside lamp! I went online and found some directions; I can follow directions. Not for this job. So, I asked a service guy to help. He couldn't get to the bulb either. I caved. Called Pohanka all the time resenting that I was going to have to pay to get a light bulb changed--not to mention the time I was going to waste going to/from and waiting.
What a wonderful surprise awaited me at the dealership. My car was whisked away within seconds of my arrival, and I was out the door with a functioning headlight on my way home 25 minutes later. But wait, it gets better. No charge!
I'll be shopping at Pohanka when it's time for a new car.
Just be warned.
I purchased a Nissan and the engine (head or something) died when it reached 70k, that's right, engine...dead.
I was told since I had no extended warranty that I was out of luck and there was nothing they could do expect replace the engine (costing me $2800.00).
So, my warning is this, if you buy a car, make sure it either comes with or you purchase an extended warranty, so you don't have to replace your engine at 70k miles for $3000.00 like I did.
Let me start of by saying that if you live in the greater Fredericksburg area, driving North or South to find another Honda dealer is the best idea. I have been a long time Honda customer, and when my family and I moved to Fredericksburg we were in the market for a new CR-V, and went over to Pohanka, which is literally around the corner. Although their website said that they had the vehicle we liked with the correct color and options, when we arrived we were told that the vehicle "was just sold". All they had on the lot were the fully loaded navigation equipped models. We inquired about ordering or exchanging a vehicle from another dealer, and BOTH requests were quickly rebuffed. The salesman (who I won't name here) stated that the CR-V was the best selling vehcile they had and they couldn't keep them on the lots, etc. Discouraged, I called Hendrick Honda of Woodbridge and explained exactly what I wanted over the phone to the salesman, who stated ordering it wouldn't be a problem. About three weeks later we picked up our brand new CR-V, with the exact specifications we were after. My oldest Honda, my commuter car, 1988 Honda Accord, just rolled 170,000 miles, so we decided a new Civic would be a good choice. Since it has been two years since we purchased the CR-V, we decided to give Pohanka a try again. AGAIN we found exactly what we liked on their website, a 2008 EX-L Coupe with a manual transmission, in blue. When we arrived, I told the salesman (again, I won't name him) what we were after, twice, after waiting about 15 minutes for him to pull the car around, he shows up with a 2008 Honda Civic EX-L with Navigation and an automatic. No big deal, I told him that wasn't the one we were there to see, and he says, "Oh, we just sold that one." Here we go again. I asked him if he had any EX-L coupes with a manual transmission on the lot, and he answered in the negative. Already having a feeling of what was coming next, I asked him if we could order or transfer a vehicle from another dealership. Shockingly, he begins to tell me the the Civic is their best selling vehicle, dealers can't keep them on the lots, etc. He then proceeds to tell me that Honda is NOT accepting orders for new Civics any longer, and, I quote, "You can't be choosey when you are buying a new Civic." Oh, so I am supposed to pay twenty grand for something that isn't what I want? Sorry not happening. I will happily take my money to another Honda dealership that is willing to actually work with a customer to earn there money. Terrbile sales, with an average service department. Avoid this dealership. They expect that with the closets Honda competition over thirty miles, that customers will just have to settle for what they have, and like it.
