I ordered a smoked fish platter lunch – it was served with a somewhat stale bagel rejuvenated by slight toasting – which no self-respecting deli would do, let alone a restaurant which purports to be French. The food quality was average – the lox and other smoked fish tasted like something bought at a Costco (which happens to be close by). The rotund chef, or someone who was trying to look like one, strutted around the dining area in an unappealingly sluggish gait. The service was ok – although I am sure the waitress has had happier days. The food, the service, the ambiance – all added up to a consummate mediocrity. If this is the only French restaurant in Fredericksburg, then it is certainly qualifies as the best. But if you really want to have a decent French cuisine experience, please take a short trip to Northern VA – and try out La Bergerie in Alexandria or L'Auberge Chez Francois in Great Falls – and you will instantly see what I am talking about.

Peeeuw. As soon as I walked in the door I was overwhelmed by the smell of stale cigarette smoke. This establishment has been around for years, and it smells like an ashtray--that's been around for years. And I'm a smoker.
Perhaps a complete renovation(walls, carpet, furniture)would help the situation. What a shame. The warm bread is wonderful, the house dressing perfect, and the entree's are great and reasonably priced.
I would only return if one of the outdoor tables was available.
