A little country restaurant that lives up to the legend. Sunday July 5 2009 had lunch at Hayfield. It was crowded with locals, a good sign. Selected salmon cakes and the two vegetables of the day. Great Old Bay flavor and I could not detect any filler in the salmon. The apple and yam combination could be served as a fancy dessert it was so good. I always hated lima beans and had not tasted any since my parents forced me forty years ago. These were great, none of that wet sand texture I remember; just a mild taste that was a great counter-point. Followed by a peachberry pie slice, though originally served cold from the ice box, was quickly nuked upon request to perfectly warm throughout. The bill was so low that I felt guilty as I walked out, but not enough to detract from the experience.
Good diner type food. Excellent pies and people are nice. Prices are good. I like to go there. Only thing we ever got that was subpar was the roast beef sandwich, not enough beef. Everything else has been great.
