Fantastic breakfast foods! In fact, the second-best French toast I've ever had, and simply THE BEST corn beef hash! The service is fast and the prices more than reasonable. Get there by 9 a.m. on weekends, though, as the place is packed!

There are only two down-sides.

1) The coffee is kinda nasty. If McDonald's can improve their coffee, so can the Tavern.

2) The smoke. While it nominally has a smoking "section" (no divisions at all), you'll normally only find one or two smokers in the entire place. Still, it permeates the room. This is particularly nasty on weekends when the place is so packed, all that's left is smoking seats. Invariably you get seated next to the one guy who's lighting up. It's time they went entirely non-smoking.

I know it's a landmark, but...: Authentic C'ville breakfast landmark. Great no frills breakfast in a rundown building. The interior gives you the feel of being in a greasy old Mel's Diner. They need to refresh the interior and exterior for that matter. It's a landmark, but externally becoming an eyesore!

Best Breakfast in Town: If you've never been to the Tavern, then you can't call yourself a native of Charlottesville!

One of the most popular breakfast places in town to go, it's defintiely the place to go for extra large helpings of food. Service is good, and the interior is covered in UVA memorabila.
