For coffee snobs! I only wish this was open way-back-when when I was a student. It is walking distance from Washington Park and the Madison-Preston UTS bus stop.
The coffee is excellent, it is roasted on site, and there are many many varieties. I am a big fan of the Smoky Mountain Blend, which is sold in some local grocery stores. When you order anything with steamed milk, they usually draw a flower or leaf into it (nice touch).
I usually come here to sit and chat while I have coffee. There is limited outdoor seating (2-4 2 person tables) but the inside has a nice mix of puffy antique couches and eclectic chairs. There are also a large variety of 'coffee table books' scattered around.
I also buy whole-bean coffee by the pound, which they will grind for you. I've also been here for coffee 'special events.' Shenandoah Joe's will occasionally roast a special blend or type of bean that will sell for more than $30 a pound. However, if you come in during the launch day, they will also sell by the mug if you aren't will to pay for the full pound.
The overall vibe is the hip-young-artsy-Mac crowd.
