| About: | Among his many achievements, Thomas Jefferson was an innovative architect, designing his home in the Palladian-style rather than the more popular Georgian. Monticello is also a museum honoring this true Renaissance man. Many of his original inventions are on display and in working order. It was here that Jefferson experimented with different vegetation and growing techniques, including cultivating the first vineyard in the United States. A combination ticket for Monticello, Michie Tavern and Ash-Lawn Highland can be purchased. |

Must see American landmark!: Beautiful grounds and historic relics of Thomas Jefferson. Taking the guided tour of his home will let you know more about how gifted Mr. Jefferson was, and how many ways he shaped our country! Try to pick a cooler day to visit. Spring and early summer are best. Sometimes they offer Christmastime evening tours which are very special!
Great look at a creative individual: Monticello reflects the creative & varied mind of an individual who had great impact on the creation of the United States.
Disappointed: This really could have been better, in my opinion. I'm not sure if it was because we were on the last tour for the day and the guide was tired or what, but the tour of the house was very rushed and brief. We really didn't get to spend enough time in the rooms to look at much of what was there and there was nothing of the upper floors in the tour (barely a description of what was there!). There is no picture taking inside the house. The grounds were more interesting and you could explore them on your own. There were signs to explain what you were looking at and most did a fairly decent job. The walking path dow from the house to the parking area was the highlight of this experience for me.
