This what the RICHMOND TIMES DISPATCH wrote about the Holladay House on Oct 23,2009!
"Holladay House Furniture has failed in its attempt to restructure and will liquidate its assets. The Aylett furniture retailer has asked a federal judge to convert its bankruptcy from Chapter 11 to Chapter 7, clearing the way for its liquidation. The company originally filed for bankruptcy in December 2007. In the past year two years, the company has tried to restructure and generate the money needed to stay afloat, but hasnât be able to, according to Roy M. Terry Jr., an attorney with DurretteBradshaw PLC, the firm representing the business."
If you have something ordered or not delieved by these bozos you better go get it before the court takes over!!!
BANKRUPTCY
Holliday House filed Chapter 11 on December 21st, 2007. Be forewarned that they are restructuring with the intent to stay in business, but there is a lot to work out. We have a deposit with them for furniture never recieved since September, and the future of the order is in doubt since we're currently unable to cancel it either. I would stay away at this time - I think they're supposed to work things out by April.
Well, I had heard nothing but good things about Holladay House so that is why in October I saw the "Going out of Business" signs all down Broad St, I decided to visit their Broad St store. We found a beautiful Vaughan king size bed and a Vera Wang mattress and paid the $2700 for it. We were told it could be 6 weeks but that they tell everyone that "just in case".
Well, around 5 weeks I called to get a status, was told that someone would call me back and no one did. I waited a couple of days and called again. Again, I was told someone would call me back. Someone did but because they called my home ph# and it went the comcast answering system that we don't use, I didn't get it until this past weekend. In the meantime, I had called again and was finally told that our mattresses were in but the bed was on backorder - until January! I was livid! They didn't even bother to call me back during the 6 weeks to let me know it was backordered - a simple courtesy call.
I finally let my husband deal with them and basically we've come to this: our mattresses are sitting in Ayelett, our bed is probably still growing in a forest somewhere and we're out almost $3000. I called them back yesterday and said bring my mattresses with a king size frame (that you better not charge me for). Now I have to wait until tomorrow to find out if they can schedule me for Saturday - which I am going to be pretty ugly about if they can't! We're not unreasonable people. You pay for something, you want it! I will not recommend them to anyone!

Holladay House is in Chapter 11. Preparing to close the West Broad Street store and settle back in Aylett on a permanent basis. Now is a great time to purchase floor models from Aylett or West Broad Street as both stores are open and operating and the inventory has to go to make room for all of it in Aylett...
Yeah, my review only applies to ORDERING furniture. I guess it would be safe to buy from the floor, but you won't be able to get warranty repairs until everything is worked out. They are working through the court to be able to complete their pre-petition obligations, but don't know how new purchases are affected. We love the store and the furniture - hopefully everything will be worked out for the best in the long-haul.
Well, we got our notice of bankruptcy yesterday and I just spoke to the Aylet store and it looks like we may not get our bed. Luckily, we got the mattress and boxspring in december but we're still waiting for our $850 bed. I cannot believe that they would continue to sell/order for customers in December knowing they were going to file Chap.11. That in itself should be a crime!!!
