| About: | The dark wood and dim lighting at Avalon create an intimate, romantic atmosphere. The food is superb and the menu changes weekly. Delicious appetizers include Pistachio-Crusted Brie Sticks with a tangy honey sauce. Entrees such as crisp quail or a tender filet mignon topped with walnuts are perfectly prepared. Avalon also has an interesting gourmet beer list. You might enjoy trying the sometimes hard-to-find brews like Potomac and John Courage with your dinner. |

Don't try the sun dried tomato pasta, yuk. They must have cooked it with 50/50 pasta and tomatoes. I told them to take it back which they did. Out of curiosity I got up and walked around the bar to watch the chef fix my plate. He takes the plate over to the garbage can and flicks out some sun dried tomatoes, tosses my dish in the microwave, and hands it back to the waitress.
No Class what so ever.
The low lighting creates a great romantic atmosphere. The fois gras was phenominal, as well as the scallops. Very energetic and pleasant wait staff. A great place for a date
Autumn at Avalon: I visited this resturaunt in the fall of 2006. The food was superb. I had the roasted duck, garlic potatoes, and an appetizer of pumpkin soup with mushrooms. I am writing this review several months later, and it has left a lasting impression on me as a truly expectional meal.
The setting is equally exquisite. The interior was completely rennovated with dark wood tables and booths, and a muted color scheme throughout. It felt very friendly and comfortable to dine.
I will be going back again. And the cost is well deserved for the quality of service and food.

oh god! ya know, being a service person (used to be in alarm industry), I have seen or heard of many things that restaurant goers don't have a clue on. Many great restaurants in Richmond with questionable kitchen shennanigans - roaches near food, bug leaving or carcasses ignored and sometimes IN food, dirty dishes (again this was bug detritus) dusted, NOT replaced with clean. I mean god...I cook at home
