One of the best places to get tiramisu in town. The downside- the service is pretty terrible. I went with 3 friends a couple weeks ago and it took 2 hours (no appetizers or drinks slowing us down and only one person got dessert). The crab panini at lunch is really good, and i also like their vietnemese coffee. Even though they run out of things periodically, I think it's because they buy fresh produce (locally grown from the farmer's market in the summer, from what I've been told) which you can tell from the quality of the ingredients. If you decide to go- call ahead. I think they're on a week-by-week basis for staying open right now and have been "closing" for the past month or two.
Absolutely terrible service! They were out of just about anything on the menu, and were graceless when we asked for a salad that was on the menu, but without nuts. The chef "couldn't accomodate that". Spend you money someplace where they'll appreciate your business
A Must in Richmond: The food is excellent and the ambiance is inviting and quaint.
This cafe is not only a wonderful place to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee and an excellent sandwich on a relaxed weekend day, but also a great place to eat a well prepared casual dinner at a great value.
The German bratwurst dinner and warm German potato salad is better than you can find in most places in Germany and the in-house tiramisu is the best prepared I have ever had in the United States and a must. Service can be a little slow at times, but I am sure that is because they equally apply the same diligence to preparing all dishes.
Even as you come up on the building right next to the farmer's market at the corner of Main St. and 17th St., you get a sense for the care free, relaxed feeling you only get in a European cafe. With the outdoor seating and the interior design that has an American touch with many of the walls lined with book shelves, this cafe lends itself to deep thoughts and great conversation.
