| About: | This bright, airy restaurant is family-oriented and is a great place to broaden your child's taste buds. There is something to catch their eye at every turn—shelves of imported foods in brightly colored packages or vibrant wall decorations. The staff is very friendly. The menu includes authentic Cuban roast pork (as an entree or on a sandwich) and three kinds of paella. This is also the only place in Richmond that has Cuban coffee. A small Cuban market is contained in the restaurant. |

I am Cuban and I can tell you that this restaurant is one of the furthest things from Cuban that I have come across. I asked for fried plantains (maduros) and they had no clue what I was talking about. Not even the white rice was good.
Save your money and go to Burger King instead.
I eat at Kuba Kuba every few months and I enjoy the food a great deal. As a native Floridian, I am familiar with Cuban cuisine, and the food at Kuba Kuba is tasty, but definitely not what I would call authentic Cuban food. Perhaps the owner is from a different part of Cuba than the owners of the myriad Cuban restaurants that I have dined at in Tampa and Miami?
The black bean soup, house salad, sandwiches, chicken and yellow rice, and pulled pork are all excellent. Some of the seafood dishes can be a bit bland (hence, not authentic Cuban food). The sandwiches are not served on Cuban bread, but where does one get Cuban bread in Richmond anyway? For me, this is excusable. The coffee and desserts, especially the tres leche cake, are excellent.
Be warned, the place is noisy and the chairs aren't great. I don't really expect a fine dining atmosphere when I go to a small Mom-and-Pop Cuban restaurant anyway though.
Kuba Kuba is a favorite for my wife and I. There are so many of our favorite dishes on the menu.

Funny...they always know what fried plantains are when I order them. I grew up in south Florida and I enjoy the food at Kuba Kuba.
