| About: | The Hill Cafe serves food that is a cut above the usual neighborhood restaurants. Located in historic Church Hill, site of some of Richmond's most beautiful restored homes, the cafe is convenient to the Poe Museum , St. John's Church and Shockoe Bottom. Dark wood and a beautiful bar area, create a plainly decorated but cosy environment with delicious food and a good selection of beer, wine and liquor. The barbecued ribs are exceptional. |

This place is way overhyped. I've been there several times as I live close to it and it's nothing more than a average restaurant. Which is fine, but everyone makes it out to be so good. It makes nothing your mom didn't make you on wednesday night after school, and most of the time, it doesn't even make it as good as your mom would have.
One of my all time faves in all of Richmond. Cozy food, prices that are oh so reasonable. Best Meatloaf in town, best fried chicken in town, best ribs.
By far the worst dinner I have had in years...I have eaten here before and it was pretty good, but last night was horrible. The poor service was only eclipsed by the inedible entree I was served. A lump of instant grits, topped with over-micorwaved frozen shrimp, surrounded by KC Masterpiece BBQ sauce and overcooked spinach. Two bites is all I could muster of the "shrimp" and "grits" for 16.95...Its a shame too because the atmosphere is great for a neighborhood bar.
