I don't know what the reviewers that went before me are talking about-- I love this place. The food is great (they grind their own beef for the burgers, though you may need to order two, they are a little small) and the fries are perfect. Try the banana cake sundae; it is awesome. The service is quick and efficient. Definitely worth the drive!
My family saw an episode of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives on the Food Channel that featured Doumar's. We went in expecting the great BBQ and cones, yet we came away hungry and very disappointed! The BBQ was nasty (very grisly and not much sauce), the ice cream was more whipped cream than anything else, and the portions were measly. I would not recommend Doumar's. On a happier note, the service was good and our waitress was very polite and attentive. But, if you go there for the food I'm afraid you will be as disappointed with the overall meal, as we were.
This place needs to pack it in.: In 2008, an ice cream sundae does NOT consist of 3/4s whipped cream and I am pretty sure it didn't in the 50's either, I don't care what you think they invented. Do something new, Doumars, or those developers down the street are going to pave you into a shopping center with a Johnny Rockets.
