I took my nine and one year old kids out to an IHOP I hadn't been to before. I was disappointed from the moment I walked into the door. There was no one to greet us. A couple waitstaff walked by us without acknowledgement. When one waitress did come to us, clearly I was carrying a toddler and she didn't ask if I would like a highchair or booster seat. When she asked us to follow her, first I got a highchair myself, while holding my kid. She then offered to carry it.
She gave a kids menu to only one kid and there were no crayons. That may seem dumb, but to a kid that's part of the whole experience in eating out. I felt rushed in deciding what to order, wasn't asked if that would be all, I had to keep telling her what I wanted as it seemed she was about to get away from the table. When my kid gave her an order for hot chocolate, she tried to talk him out of it because it didn't have refills.
No silverware or napkins were given until after our food was delivered.
Then we didn't get the entire order. Empty dishes weren't taken away, I wasn't asked if I was done and if I wanted it taken away.
The place was also out of apple juice. Hello, be prepared. (Nothing against the waitress here.)
She was nice but inefficient and somewhat thoughtfuless. It seemed she wasn't properly trained or socialized the way that waitstaff need to be.
This was just one visit at this location, so I'm not sure what the norm is there. Overall, IHOP has always been a positive experience.
We came hungry, but I didn't leave happy.
Yum...IHOP: What can be said about IHOP? You either get it or you don't. Great comfort food (pancakes) and oversized omelettes (steak is the best).
