I ate at the Domo at the Ocean front. I was concerned because the last time I ate there it was still Osaka. Wasn't aware of the change but I was not disappointed. Service was excellent, food was very fresh and can't wait until my next visit.
We have been to Domo before about 6 months ago. Everything was great at that time. Boy how things have changed. First we were seated at about 2:30 pm the place was dead, we were thinking cool this will be a quick late lunch, ugh not so much. We sat the waitress did not come back around for 20 mins my husband had to actually go get her to take our drink orders. Second thing we noticed was they had changed the menu. Some things were missing that was previously there and we noticed alot of the specials are smothered in cheese yuck who wants sushi smothered in shredded cheese. I went ahead and ordered my usual shrimp tempura roll and a spicy California roll, because I am pregnant, so no raw fish for me. Hubby got a spicy white tuna roll and a spicy shrimp roll. We also ordered a shrimp tempura bento box for our daughter, some yakitori, a house salad, and hot tea. all of the apitizers were great my daughters food was beautiful and tasty. Then came the sushi. First the rolls were super looses already falling apart before they got to the table. The California roll had no avocado only a bunch of shredded crab, cople sticks of cucumber and a bunch of crunchy things. I immediately told the waitress that this was not right then she informed me they were out of avocado....ok so why didn't they tell me that when I ordered and why add all the crucnchy things. She offered to have something else made but my choices were really limited because I cant have anything raw. I said never mind I would keep it. Next roll shrimp tempura roll had crab in it. huh crab you say that what I said I have never had a shrimp tempura roll with shrimp and crab in it. It had none of the normal sauces on it just a very loose roll a small shrimp that was VERY greasy! and the crab. the spicy shrimp roll was dripping mayo every where. If I had not been ravenously hungry I would have got up and left when the rolls came out. Overall taste was not bad ingreidents were fresh. I kinda felt like we were in someones home and this was their first try at making sushi. Definitely won't be eating at Domo anymore. I would suggest anyone wanting Sushi go to Koi in suffolk they are small and the one american waiter guy gets on my nerves but the sushi is always good.
Unfortunately, I saw that Domo took over Nagoya Sushi in Chesapeake. I still thought it would be great compared to the Domo in Norfolk but this was not so. It was pretty much the same. The sushi is good, but not as great as everyone on yahoo seems to think, at least in my opinion. I have had sushi from many places in the Tidewater area, NY, Chicago and elsewhere but I still think that YAMA Sushi in Va Beach is the best ever!!! I would not go back to Domo. The service was so-so, lots of wait staff kinda hanging around the back in front of the tv but they were okay, nothing special. Yama ALWAYS gives us a plate of FREE Spicy Volcano whether we eat in or take it out! They are very attentive. I think for $50 for 4 sushi rolls, I will go back to YAMA!
