Hands down the BEST Bar/Restaurant in Portsmouth! The lunch specials are reasonably priced and large portions. The service is beyond 5 star when compared to an Irish Themed bar just down the street.
Courtney was excellent (and she was cute too!) and Mike was great. I thought all the waiters/waitresses in Portsmouth stank until I went to Thumpers. Would go back anytime! -

I'm a regular at Thumpers bar, go there 3-4 times a week, most the bartenders know me by name, and I always tip well. Last night after work, I went in and had 2 mixed drinks and a beer. My bill was about $15, so i paid with a $20 bill. I walked to the bar next door and had a few more drinks. I then return to Thumpers to find the same bartender as before exclaiming that I hadn't paid my bill. I ask her if she really doesn't remember me paying, reminding her of the amount I tipped and everything. She stood with a sturn look and said she wasn't going to check the receipts because she KNOWS I didn't pay. She then begins to escalate the scene, drawing attention from other patrons, so I tell her, "ok, it's fine, i'll pay you again, it's only $15". I'll still go there on Sundays when a particular, more proffesional bartender that I know is working, but I'm done with Thumpers other than that. I hate to talk bad about a place because of one bartender, but hey, maybe they should screen a little more.

It was probably the same one who tried to argue with me about how to make martinis. she made my gin martini with bottom-shelf vodka, then after agreeing to make me another drink, she pours the old drink into it, combining the 2.... yes she actually did this. so I had a martini with 1 oz of the right gin and 2 oz of the well vodka. of course i couldnt drink it, I tried, really. I tell her thats ok, just give me a beer. I later noticed she billed me for 3 martinis, though I drank none, and tried to make a big scene, shouting and making everyone look so I just paid and left. I should find out that girl's name...
