Earlier this year I moved here from out of state for a job offer. I only had a day to find a place to live during my interview/acceptance. At first Stonegate isn't much to look at (they are older apartments, so it's not bad at all), but it is without a doubt the best place to live if you are fresh out of school and working!
Management made my transition from out of state as smooth as possible. I was now 8 hours away from my family but everyone on staff has made an effort to ask me how i'm doing every time I see them. If you have ANY issues at all they are at your door right away to fix it (even at night!). Every time I go into the office they ask me if there is anything they can do for me, anything I would like changed, etc. I've never seen an apartment staff like this! (They will even double check your doors for you when you're out of town).
It's also easy to meet your neighbors because of the building lay outs. Being just out of school, and from a different state I was worried that I'd either be stuck with a bunch of freshly 21 year olds, or "family" age people. Instead it's mostly grad students or people fresh out of school. Everyone is super friendly and always helping each other (in my building atleast). On my move in day they all made the effort to say hello and introduce themselves as they passed by. Also, pets are very welcome so it's easy to meet people in other buildings when you stop to pet their dogs!
It is kind of a bummer when it's nice out that there is no pool or exercise room, but I've found laying in the grass to work just fine (i'd recommend a beach chair because there is the occasional dog poop). The rent is a great price for a 1 bedroom and I really have way more room than I need! This is the greatest closet I have ever had (and that's hard for a girl to say)!
I would say without a doubt if you are a young adult looking for a fun place to live that's not a "college" complex you'd be dumb to not look at Stonegate! People have a good time here, but it has never bothered me enough to keep me awake on a work night (if people are a little loud, if you ask they always quiet down).Originally I planned to live here until I could afford something newer and nicer. But, after just 8 months I can tell you that I will live in Stonegate as long as I live in Blacksburg!! I absolutely cannot say enough how much I love living here!
The guy that wrote that first review must have the wrong place. First of all, let's start with the management. The management here is FANTASTIC, I have lived here for 3 years now and have never had a complaint. Anytime I need anything, Mark (the manager) helps me out immediately. Secondly, the balconies are quite big, and very nice as they are wrought iron...I ask the previous reviewer to find a bigger balcony for me anywhere in Blacksburg. As far as noise complaints...did you ever consider knocking on your neighbors door? Or would that have been to much to ask? I have had to complain about neighbors, and Mark has always taken care of it. Additionally, Stonegate apts are the only ones that I could find that would let you have pets without any weight or breed restrictions, plus they don't try to charge you an arm and a leg in pet fees. I would absolutely recommend stonegate apts to anyone and I have. If you have problems with this apt complex, then please go somewhere else, because we don't need unfriendly neighbors such as the previous reviewer.
Reconsider before signing: Stonegate is good at first glance, but it quickly changes when you move in. The manager is no longer the 'I'll do anything I can to help you' person he was before. I had bug problems.
I had constant noise problems from one of my neighbors. There is no eviction policy for constant noise problems here, the manager tells them to quiet down ONE time, then tells you it's your problem, and to go to the police, and not to tell him about it again. I had to call the police 4-7 days per week. It was horrible.
The manager does not care. Plus, you get NO amenities living there. There is NOT even a pool. Nothing. The balconies are ugly and small.
Either pay less and live somewhere with a good manager, with no balcony (it's ugly anyway) and no dishwasher (you can buy your own with the rent you will save), or pay a bit more and live somewhere nicer, with management that cares about their residents.
