We recently moved from Greensboro to Martinsville. Today we were in Danville on business and seeing the Short Sugar's Bar-B-Q we decided to stop in for lunch. I ordered a regular chopped bar-b-que sandwich with a small order of hushpuppies. My boyfriend ordered the Jumbo bar-b-que sandwich with a large order of fries. It took at least 30 minutes for us to get the food to begin with. Luckily there were copies of a thrifty nickel and another want ad paper which occupied our time as we waited for our food to finally arrive. When it did, it was not served on a plate. The waitress simply plopped our sandwiches wrapped in paper down on the table. We did find it odd though that we given forks considering we both ordered sandwiches. Their purpose became clear When we attempted to take our first bite. The sandwich completely fell apart due mostly because the buns were soggy from so much slaw. There was barely any barbeque on the "jumbo" sandwich and about a spoonfull on my sandwich. To make matters worse, the "small" order of hushpuppies I ordered consisted of three overdone hushpuppies to be exact. If my memory serves me correctly, the small order of huspuppies cost around $1.50 which equated to 50 cents per hushpuppy which I found utterly ridiculous. Needless to say our first visit to short sugar's will be our last. Next time we get a craving for good bar-b-que we will take the extra time to drive into Greensboro to eat at Stamey's where the portions are in line with prices charged and the quality of food and service is always excellent.
Best breakfast in town! BBQ is awesome. Friendly staff and great service! A definite stop for race fans as it's located on highway 58 (Riverside Dr.) between Martinsville and South Boston.
i go back as often as possible: THE BEST RIBS IN 4 STATES! Go any Friday or Saturday night after 5
for a finger-lickin experience like no other. Hushpuppies are shaped like onion rings & are just as good. Add fries & baked beans and you are on your
way to rib heaven. No better eating for the money. When I'm up from GA
I find my way to Short Sugar's for ribs.
