Robey Theater: This is one of the oldest theater in West Virginia. It is still in the same condition as it was back it 1907, when it first start the silent movies. And before that it was a vandville stage, It stayed in the same family until a few years back. And the new owners are doing a good job by keeping it in the same style of the era of 1907. They are clean and nice rest rooms and the inside of the theater is clean. People in this area are proud of the Robey Theater and it is understandable. A beautiful movie theater indeed.
great: It's a great place.
Interesting place: The Robey theater is the longest continually operating theater in the United States . It was an actual vaudville theater up until 1907 when it started showing slient movies. And it looks basically the same now as it probably did over a hundred years ago. It's interior and exterior are "retro chic" if it weren't for the new movie posters hanging on the walls you would think that you stepped back in time. Luckily it has been saved from the constant need most people have to update everything that is uniquely old and beautiful.
The wooden seats creak and pop when you first get in them but that all kind adds to the charm of being there. But if at all possible sit up at the balcony your butt will thank you for spending an extra $2 for the semi comfortable seats. Also while in the balcony you get a closer view of the pressed tin ceiling and old drop lamps that light the place up before the show starts. There is still a stage and orchestra pit surrounding the movie screen. Which just adds to the whole experience of being there. Sometimes while waiting for a movie to start it's hard not to sit back and imagine what it must have been like to watch a silent movie or play just like they did almost a hundred years ago. If you are ever in Spencer and haven't got to experience the Robey Theater I urge you to buy a ticket and enjoy the show and the building.
