Come for lunch - come back for dinner!
On a business trip, my co-workers and I walked over from the hotel (apparently parking is troublesome). Wow! We sat at the soda fountain bar and each got a different sandwich. My co-worker could not stop raving about his smoked turkey sandwich. My crab salad sandwich was fabulous, though the milkshake seemed a little watered-down.
A few days later we stopped in for dinner and were surprised by a completely different menu, white tablecloths, and upscale feel. My lamb was good and prepared as ordered. Two co-workers were impressed with their build-your-own pastas, though the alfredo was rich. The highlight was my other co-worker's pork chop - 2 inches thick and tasty throughout. I was disappointed with the sticky bun bread pudding for dessert. Service was good.
The Blossom Deli is the best food I've had in Charleston. Today we had lunch. I had an herbed chicken breast sandwich with pine nuts, goat cheese, and sundried tomatoes. It was spectacular. My wife had a roast beef sandwich with roasted red peppers. Also excellent. For lunch there are mostly sandwich and salad choices. But for dinner it is upscale, fine cuisine. They have a website. You can easily find it with a search engine. The evening menu is a little pricey, but it's worth it because the food is sooo good. The lunch menu is quite reasonable and a great value considering how great the food is. This should be first on your list for a visit to Charleston.
One of Charleston's finest: The food here is of the quality that you should refer to it as cuisine. I can't recall the exact background, but the owner is a chef of some sort who decided to bring his culinary talents to Charleston. The salads, sandwiches and entrees are wonderful. I do now know someone who works here, but I actually haven't eaten there since she started. My review wouldn't have been different before she worked there though. The setting is also wonderful... Cozy and quaint, even somewhat romantic. It's located in the old Blossom Dairy (which would probably mean more to me if I was from here), with old black marble booths down one side, and the old soda fountain type counter down the other side. Most certainly one of the better dining experiences available in downtown Charleston, or all of Charleston for that matter. Soho's is the sister restaurant, with an italian food emphasis, over in the Capitol Market, and is similarly wonderful, with a different, though still great and historic atmosphere. They have jazz nights at Soho's. Bon apetite!
