The food was fair, the service was worst than terrible. I would never go back. The attitude of the server P. was bad, and what is worse, the managers were no better. Very over-rated. In 2005 & 2006 when it had better ratings it might have been a better place but not now. Has the management changed?
Let me tell you something about marshall cafe
1. Casual dining room for a regular dining experience
2. Bar with tv's galore playing football games
3. Bar area booths with thier own small tv
4. Game room
5. Gift shop
6. Walk of fame (with lots of marshall university nestalgia)
you have all of this in a very nice area of town, just across from pullman square and the civic arena.
now for the price and food: the food is pretty nice. sometimes it will be better than others seeing as how its not prepackaged frozen cans thats cooked the same everytime. your going to have different cooks on different occasions and they will each have a different style of preparing your food.
the price is on the high side but should be expected from a classy joint like this one. lots and lots of hot college chicks work there so thats a plus! i like this place alot. even if what you order does suck theres plenty more to take your mind off it. on game days its going to be hard to get into and crowded and slow and noisy so if that bothers you avoid game days. but most any other day there is no wait at all. if something isnt to your satisfaction, find a manager. they take that stuff pretty seriously and will do a pretty resonable job of correcting it. i recomend checking it out. good date place.
Nice Place but not the greatest: It might be ok for a table of 4 or 6, but when you have a table of 28 or a reception it was not the greatest. The food was too pricey for what I had. I had the slow roast beef, and that is exactly what it was SLOW, the service was poor, considering you had 3-4 servers hovering around the table. They forgot refills on several people's drinks.. and had to be asked to bring more.
Since my lunch (Sunday Brunch) did not come with a salad..(another disappointment for the price) I was the last one served.. I had to wait till everyone had their salads... and still was the last one served their plate .
The meal constisted of a small slab of roast beef, a plunked down mass of mash potatoes, a few roasted pieces of carrot and celery ( I think that's what it was) swimming in a greasey pool of "gravy??" no bread, no salad.. , the tea was extra. The roast beef what there was of it, did taste good.
I am used to paying $8-$10 for a meal.. but usually you get rolls and the entre is bigger... today was a very big disappointment for the $8.95 meal + the drink.
I had heard that it was great.. but I don't classify it as that... I will take Bob Evans over the Marshal Cafe... at least you get bread, salad and nice portions for the same price.
