CW Tiffins

First time I was there in early-August I fell in love with the place; great outdoor patio with good selection at bar. Haven't found a good outdoor patio restaurant in the area so I was happy. Good happy hour specials and I was pleased with the food I purchased. Visited a second time and service was bad. Server sat at bar and drank beer, then went on shift and did shots at the bar while working; seemed a bit wasted. Place was not busy and took food a while to get to our table. Decided to go a third time during happy hour on a Friday evening; wasn't that busy. 3 different servers came by to 'take our order' after we'd already placed it with the initial server who approached our table. I ordered delicious chicken breast sandwich with chips. They served fries instead (which was ok) but then brought me crumbles of chips leftover...said they were almost out. Didn't charge me for the fries, so I was ok with that. Next time (1 week later) went back and ordered same thing - chicken breast sandwich. I was apallled at what was served. I was served 5 small slices of chicken breast (like you'd put in a Caesar salad) with a lot of swiss cheese melted on top (I presumed that was to hide the skimpy portion of chicken since it wasn't a full chicken breast like I had the week prior). Nothing is ever consistent in this place; service or food. Too bad, because it's a fun atmosphere, but missing quality service and quality food. Place has potential, but needs help. I heard this is the 3rd or so round of owners...I hope they learn quickly or they'll probably be closing their doors in a year. I know I won't be back nor will I recommend this place to anyone.

Hey, you've gotta love this place! If you enjoy restaurants in historic buildings this is tops in Charles Town. First of all, the CW in the name stands for Charles Washington, founder of Charles Town. Tiffins? Well, let me tell you, the house where the restaurant is located was the first lot to be developed in Charles Town and the house was owned by the Tiffin family. Dr. Tiffin maintained an office in the house and saw patients there. Then one day, he left town - headed west to Ohio, where he became the first governor of the state after it achieved statehood!

Oh, and the food is pretty good too! Try the crab soup!
