let me start this by saying....we have been going to Hillbilly Hideaway for over 20 years. Our dining experience was always wonderful....up until about a year ago. Our last 3 visits have been far from great. Our most recent visit took place last night. Our group of 15 were seated in the dining area in the far back that has 2 air conditioners. The thermostat on the air conditioner read 74 when we arrived, it was at 79 when we left. We asked for country ham 3 times and it was never brought to us. The chicken was undercooked, and the biscuits were tough. Forget about drink refills, we had to constantly ask for those, while the temperature in the room continue to rise. We then went down to the barn for the music. I am not sure there was any air on at all, just the ceiling fans. We sat down there and sweated for about 20 minutes before deciding to leave. I don't mind paying $14.75 per person, if I have air conditioning and service. Oh, and by the way, the $14.75 does include your drink, but desserts have gone up to $3.00. They need more wait staff and need to work on the air.
Our family loves the Hideaway. We go mostly on Friday nights or for breakfast. The fish is great on Friday but, so is the entire meal. The kids love the hoe cakes and the country ham. It is a bit of a drive for us but, we all think it is well worth it! If you have never been there give it a try.
This USED to be one of my favorite restaurants. My family and I went on Sat., Mar 8, 2008. The worst service I have ever had there. The green beans and creamed corn tasted like they were straight from a can. The mashed potatoes tasted like they were instant. The fried chicken was dry and the bbq ribs were horrible.
At least the country ham, cornbread, slaw and apples were good.
I don't know what happened to the great service and fantastic food they used to serve. I was so disappointed! I did not see the older gentleman there that owns/owned the restaurant. I have always seen him there in the past. Maybe he passed away or is no longer able to run it... It obviously has gone down hill since he is not there.
