User Rating: 2 out of 5 starsI've visited Meta's before several times and I never had a complaint other than the size of their portions- until today. I went to get my usual vegetable plate and I got the usual small portions, but the food was horrible! I couldn't believe it! My rice and gravy tasted like it had sat in oil for some hours and even my sweet tea tasted like bleach and old liquoice! What topped the cake was when I took the food back and told Meta my complaint. She was somewhat rude and said that she would give me a full refund because she "didn't need my money that bad." Wow. I can understand having one off day, but being treated like that was a complete slap in the face. I would have tried them once again even after the bad experience with the food, but not after such insulting customer service. It's saddening to me because I really enjoy frequenting black owned businesses, but Meta's has lost a customer for life.

My 1st experience with Meta's was while attending the NBTF for the first time in '95...a lady got on the elevator as I got off and her bag was smelling so good, that I put my hand in the elevator door and asked her where did she get that food, she told me and that was IT! The next NBTF in '97 several people went back with me and we ate every lunch and dinner at Meta's. I could not catch the squash casserole because it was always sold out at lunch, so on my last day I gave up a play to stand in line for lunch (with the stars - Glen Turman, August Wilson in front of me - Wow!) and got to try that squash, MAN was it GOOD,Good, Good. I made it last night for a neighbor who'd shared squash from his garden last year, and decided to follow-up on my promise...he remembered, ate the whole pan immediately and said, with this kind of food I could be a vegetarian. It's excellent reheated! Meta's is awesome, haven't been back since '97, but the memory is still vivid to all of us. Everything is good! One day I'll return for a Meta's weekend!
User Rating: 5 out of 5 starsWonderful Wednesdays: I have only ate at Meta's on Wednesday's. Yes, the lines are long unless you get there before 12. When I announce to the office that I am going to Meta's I usually leave the office w/ 5 to 12 orders for lunch. The owner and her daughter are wonderful people. I definitely recomend Meta's.
