I recently got a takeout order from Village Tavern while in town on vacation. I'd been to the VT in Greensboro, so I had high expectations.
I ordered two sandwiches, the turkey sandwich and the mushroom sandwich, and an appetizer to go, and it took quite a while for the order to come out. When I got our food back to the hotel, there was no cutlery (for the pasta salad side) or ketchup (for the fries side). This was especially dissapointing after the long wait. Also, I'd ordered both sandwiches on whole wheat bread, but neither sandwich had the correct bread.
That being said, the mushroom sandwich I had was very good. (Granted, I was pretty hungry by then!) Also, the hostess staff was very apologetic about the order taking so long.
The restaurant is in a quaint location in Reynolda Village, and parking on this particular Saturday night was ample. The ambiance of the restaurant seemed nice. The staff that I observed during my wait seemed to be friendly and hard-working.
I wish that we'd been able to come dine in that evening; it probably would've been a better experience. Hence, the benefit of the doubt, and 4 stars.
Everything on the menu is good except the Colorado chicken. Service is high class. Prices are reasonable.
VT is one of my favorite restaurants in Winston-Salem. Fantastic atmosphere for families, for couples, or just to get drinks with a few friends (hard for a place to pull off that combo, but VT does). If you go there get the apple cobbler.
