| About: | The Spotted Dog is beloved institution in the city of Carrboro, just outside Raleigh and close to Chapel Hill. This restaurant offers three menus: lunch, dinner and late-night to appeal to the locals for business lunch, or the college students who come over for appetizers and drinks at the full bar. The restaurant is rather narrow as it's situated at an intersection. User Rating: 5 out of 5 starsThis place is so great. They are fun they are friendly and have the best food there. On Thursdays it is Margritaville night. If you want a place to hang and just have fun with friends and have great service to just go visit them. You will enjoy it very much.
User Rating: 5 out of 5 starsSimply the best: The point at which one becomes a regular is the point where the servers ALL know what you're having to drink without asking. So, I'm a regular. I think I now visit The Spotted Dog more often since I moved from Carrboro than when I lived 2 miles away. However far, it's certainly worth the trip.
Food: There are too many items on the menu for me to have just one favorite, but if I had to narrow it down, Rover Meets Charlie (grilled tuna steak atop a field greens salad) would have to be #1.
This is a vegetarian and vegan friendly establishment, although the menu has a choice from beef, fish & chicken, to tofu and soy "chicken" nuggets. Everything is delicious.
SAVE ROOM FOR DESSERT! The Spotted Dog's dessert menu changes daily. The only problem I've ever had is deciding which ONE dessert to get...They're all sooooo goooood.
Service: If Service was the only factor, The Spotted Dog would still get top marks. I have had the honor to be waited on by each member of the staff, and I love them all. You'll be hard-pressed to find a friendlier, more conscientious group than the Spotted Dog crew.
Price: The food is consistently fabulous, and the price is beyond reasonable, and surprisingly low. My guess is the solid, steady clientèle keeps prices to a minimum, but whatever the reason, you can't find a better deal on such fine fare as this.
Atmosphere: The Spotted Dog is located in downtown Carrboro, NC - a very earthy, trendy kind of place. Nestled in a wedge shaped building at the forks of Weaver and Main streets, the Spotted Dog is just across the street from the Carr Mill Mall. Carrboro is the sister city to Chapel Hill, home of the UNC Chapel Hill Tarheel campus. Carrboro is so laid back, it's almost asleep. There is a special warmth about the town that contrasts sharply with the "tone" of its next door neighbor - the "Keeping Up Appearances" of Chapel Hill.
The Spotted Dog reflects the natural warmth and charm of the city she belongs to. This is a "family friendly" establishment - whether that family is mom, dad & the kids, or LGBT family like yours truly. Everyone is welcome, and you feel it the moment you walk through the front or side door.
