McCall's Bar-B-Que & Seafood

It used to be better!: McCalls is a local favorite for the eastern NC pallet. Has a consistently good buffet selection of pork barbecue, fried chicken, fried seafood, vegetables, salads and deserts. As with all buffet resturants, it can be expected to have some "not-so-good" food days. In the case of this McCalls location, off days were directly related to the cook(s) for that day. Recently there seems to be a downward trend in the freshness of the seafood. The trout was not old as in the "time out of the water before being cooked", but rather being cooked way ahead of time to be left sitting in a warmer to become dry and tough. Vigilence on the part of the cook staff to keep the buffet replenished and cleaned of spills seems to have be come somewhat lax. Although generally pleasant, the resturant staff has lost its luster. Pricing has gone up roughly 30 - 40% over the past 10 years. I will still patronize McCalls (1) because they have been better in the past and it is hoped that they will be that way again and (2) so far as I'm concerned the other local BBQ resturants serve BBQ that is too greasy and spiked with too much vinegar.
