I love this place! They have breakfast, too! The food is the best and they are always friendly. The parking is kinda tight sometimes so I sometimes park at New Bern Place or at the Post office.
Cuban? Argentinian? Great all the way around: The Oakwood Cafe is a family-run lunch spot (they only offer dinner service on Friday or Saturday) in downtown Raleigh. Advertised as a Cuban restaurant and run by Argentinians, the Cafe offers excellent food of both types at very affordable prices.
You can't go wrong with any of the meat dishes, like ropa vieja or Argentinian-style steak with Chimichurri sauce, but what really stands out is the seafood. The shrimp scampi over rice (or pasta) is outstanding, and the specials usually include other fish dishes like Tilapia Milanesa (breaded and fried Tilapia) or grilled flounder.
All of the lunch entrees run from $6 to $8, and most come with two side orders. I recommend the red kidney beans, and rice with spinach.
I tend to eat at the Oakwood Cafe at least once a week, and I can't give it any higher recommendation than that.
