| About: | After a six-year absence, this downtown eatery famous for its mix-and-match offering of house-made pastas and scratch sauces is back. Try pumpkin fettuccine with alfredo sauce, or fusille with brazen puttanesca. Seafood is also a strong suit, as are desserts. Chef Nick Rossicci clearly has not been dozing for the last six years. He has been here all along, in fact, working as a private chef and running a wholesale bakery that supplies desserts to restaurants. The fact that he's been paying attention to changing local tastes is abundantly reflected in his menu. For one thing, Rossicci has increased the emphasis on scratch preparation. Virtually everything is made on the premises, from the focaccia and caramelized garlic clove-infused olive oil that are brought to the table at the beginning of the meal to the impossibly smooth, chocolaty Italian silk pie that concludes it. |

Best of Italy: The Best Italian food in the South. Great pasta, bread and mozzarella. I felt like being in Italy again.
