The building, atmosphere, and the service are all great. Astonishingly, they totally miss on the meat! My wife's and my steaks were way overcooked and the meat was good but just Outback Steakhouse quality. My daughter ordered med well and got blood red raw. Sent it back but the waiter said something you wouldn't expect at a place like this....He said we keep a couple well done steaks on the side of the grill...I'll get you one of those!!! Wow get me a warmed over one? He ended up bringing back the same steak though and as expected a second cooking just sears and dries it out. Everything else was great but the centerpiece, the meat, just a real dissapointment.
My family treated ourselves recently to the Barn, and had a perfect meal. From the time you came in the door, a batallion of friendly staff and servers were falling over themselves with genuine hospitality. Please be sure and make a reservation! We hadn't, thinking we could get a table by showing up at 5:30 when they open. We ended up having a very cozy meal upstair in the bar. I had a filet with backfin crab and asparagus that literally melted in my mouth. My husband enjoyed his t-bone and our child could not finish his burger, it was so hearty. And yet, we managed to wedge in a piece of their chocolate chess pie. This is a fun and vibrant place to spend a casual evening out.
Angus is an institution more than a restaurant: I've been eating at Angus Barn 1-2 times per year (sometimes more) since I was a child and have seen it have its ups and downs, its cycle of the best food on the planet and then a couple of years later when they change chefs the menu items become almost inedible.
Right now at present they are on a middle-to-slightly-up tick but still inconsistent at times from one night to the next.
If you've never been they're definitely worth a trip, any restaurant that can literally seat close to 3,000 people has to been experienced to be believed, just be prepared for iffy service and one steak being perfect while your dining companion's one close to pretty bad. You pays your money and youz takes your chances.
