I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place!! Since I moved to Fayetteville I don't get there much, but the food is amazing! I used to go there every morning for breakfast, and at least twice a week for lunch or dinner! After a couple trips there, everyone knows who you are! I could put in my order for breakfast the day before, and it would be ready when I would come in the next morning! They also rent out the place, I had my birthday party there!! If you expect a waitstaff go to a real restaurant! It's a market, but well worth the wait in line, and them yelling your name when it's ready!! Friday night dinner's are not to be missed!!
Fun but unpredictable: I have eaten here numerous times since moving to Wilson over two years ago. I recently went in last week and left without ordering anything. The food is pretty good, if pricey for the portion sizes, but the quality is inconsistent. I've found the items on the menu that tend to be of the best quality. The chicken salad is usually very good, the blueberry biscuits are great, and the homemade potato chips are fantastic. Unfortunately, it's hit or miss on whether these items will be available when I go in. If it's after 1:00 pm, they will frequently be out of what I want to order. In addition, I have had several occassions where I went in, ordered a baked good, loved it, and then could never find in on the menu again. What happened to the chocolate pyramids?
Also, the hours are eratic. I can never figure out when the place is open, and the hours of operation change with the seasons. Sometimes they are open on Saturdays, and sometimes they are not. During certain months, they close at 3:00 pm. During others, they are open until 7:00 pm. I have pretty much stopped going there because of the inconsistent schedule.
The service is also iffy. If you are in a hurry at lunch time, this is not the place to go. You can stand in line for 25 minutes plus waiting for a to go order. Also, the staff is not as knowledgable about the coffee drinks as they should be. I have had to explain the difference between a capuccino and a latte on more than one occassion. There are three counter employees who are excellent at what they do and are very attentive to the customers. Some of the younger employees (high school and college age) lack knowledge about the menu and the products in the gormet grocery area.
They do have wi-fi, which is great for business lunches or just doing work on your own when you need to get out of the house or office. If you go between noon and 1:00 pm, though, it is difficult to have a meeting or even a casual conversation with a friend. The place is very busy and very noisy. Between 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm business slows down, the service improves, and it is less noisy.
They have a great selection of imported beers, and the prices are consistent with the local supermarkets that carry the same brands.
I am not a huge soup fan, but whenever my mother comes to visit, she requests that we stop here for a bowl of whatever is on the menu for that day. She has raved about every type of soup she has ordered, especially the turkey chilli. She also loved the creamy potato.
If you have an hour to kill, this can be a fun place to just go in and browse. The specialty food section has some interesting products, and they frequently have free sample of wine or gourmet food items.
The day-old baked goods basket also has some great bargains. Whenever I go in, if they have any blueberry buiscuits in the bargain basket, I buy all of them and put them in the freezer. Unforunately, they have the blueberry buiscuits so infrequently that I have to stock up.
In short, if you are looking for a good cup of specialty coffee with quick service, then the Starbuck's up the street is better. If you need catering for a casual event, they offer really good sandwich, fruit, and pastery trays for very reasonable prices. If you want to stop for a six-pack of specialty beer, they are quicker than the supermarket. If you want a location for a casual business lunch, it's not a bad choice. Everyone in the party can order and pay separately (no haggling over splitting the check,etc...), but it can be noisy and full of distractions. If you want a quick take-away dinner on the way home from work, then they have several options. The take-away items also include a lot of vegitarian options, which has surprised several of my friends from out of state.
Good dinner and greater music: Their Friday night dinner service is informal and super, and the guy playing the jazz piano is excellent.
