Good service, decent food, small portions, high prices. You can get Italian food this good anywhere in Charlotte, for a lot less. Kind of a cool, 50-ish atmosphere, but you can't eat atmosphere.
A dinner at your long lost Italian grandmother's..: Coming from a restaurant background and being expecially critical of everything involving a restaurant, I must say, I am thoroughly impressed. I've been to just about every restaurant around the Charlotte area and if I desire Italian cuisine, this restaurant is my number one pick.
If you're like me and you choose your restaurants on impulse, you're likely not going to like the 45 minute wait time which you will have to endure. However, no restaurant remains constantly over run by a clan of people waiting on tables for no apparent reason!!
I particularly favor the walk through the heart of the restaurant, the kitchen, prior to being seated at the perfect tables they arrange for you. The decor...it's as though I've found my long lost jolly Italian grandmother and have been invited to her hearty home for a tremendous dinner. The colorful atmosphere, the cleaverly positioned artifacts, the very unique light fixtures, they all come together to make a very enjoyable and interesting atmosphere. I almost don't believe this is a franchise restaurant!
Then the servers are as professional and friendly as you could guess it. Servers, in general, annoy me. I look for sincerity and anyone who's ever been a server know, it's pretty darn hard to show! Nevertheless, I am impressed. Again, not something I expect from a franchise restaurant!
Then comes the food. I've tasted some of the best...and worst which Charlotte has to offer. Buca di Beppo is definitely among the best, in my opinion. I feel, the only way it could be better, is if the menu offered a wider range of selections. Thus far, every dish which I have sampled have all been perfectly created. Nothing had too much sauce or too little. The meat was perfectly tender and juicy. The portions were more than filling! Once again, far more than I ever expected to come from a franchise restaurant.
This is one of those restaurants which I would most definitely pay return visits, again and again and again. I strongly recommend Buca di Beppo to anyone who's out for a little bit of flavor, a little bit of authenticity, a little bit of a relaxation and a fabulous dining experience.
You need to go at least once: Tons of personality in the decor. A young one could get lost if you let them go on their own. Great family style dishes make it a good value for large groups, or if you're extreamly hungry. I got 2 full meals out of mine. Been here twice, the first time was unbelievable, the second time was average. I'd recommend going during the middle of the week when they are less busy.
