Penguin Drive-In is a classic workingman's diner. Start yourself off with a pitcher of Yuengling, buffalo wings, pickle chips, and crinkle-cut cheese fries as you revel in the tunes blaring out of the all rock 'n' roll jukebox. Sandwiches with names like "Boss Hogg" and "Tupelo Special" are supremely tempting, while a burger called the "Full Blown Hemi," served "southern style" with chili, mustard, onions, and coleslaw just may be the burger-to-end-all-burgers. Homemade Brunswick stew rounds out the Penguin's hearty selection of offerings. Vegetarian options like a soy dog and black bean hummus are available, and the Penguin does have a full bar. See website for the entire menu as well as a calendar of events.
Hours:
Mo to Sa from 11:00am to 12:00am,Su from 12:00pm to 11:00pm
Best burger ever! When I have visitors from out of town it's a must we go to the Penguin. Amazing black bean hummus, fried pickles, onion rings etc. The price is cheap for the flavor you get. Please note I have read through the reviews, this is not a fancy place by any means. I saw a lot of comments about not being seated without your whole party there, that is true. The reason they have that set in place is because it is only a 10 top and there have been times I have waited for almost 2 hours to get seated and eat. Let me tell you it is worth the wait, this is not a place during prime time to just eat and hang out at the table while there are other people waiting to get seated. The staff is not there to chit chat they are normally SLAMMED and I can say they do work in great teams to get you in and out. I have seen run in's as well with the owner / manager but I can tell you he can afford to not have your business because there is always a wait and steady stream of ppl coming and going. Not sure if they still have the Uptown location but that might be a better option for those of you that were not happy with the original location.

I have to agree, I came in to visit stizums and we went there. It was everything she said it would be. Don't know what they do to that burger, but it is GOOD!
Really wanted to try this place based on what all I had heard. Unfortunately, I never got a seat since they would not let us sit down until our whole party arrived and we had one person running 10 minutes late. That would not be a problem if it had been busy but all the tables were empty except for two. The manager, Andy, was terribly rude at told us that was their policy and if we didn't like it we could leave. We made the decision to go across the street where we could be seated immediately and at least have a beer while we were waiting for our friend.
OWNERS, PLEASE REALIZE THAT "RULES" CAN SOMETIMES BE BROKEN AND IN THIS ECONOMY I WOULD NOT BE TURNING PATRONS AWAY WHEN MOST OF YOUR RESTAURANT IS EMPTY.

Pauk B I was there and the folks at the Penguin failed at every level! The manager was a complete ego maniac. I have worked at many restaurants and you never yell at the customer when they want to spend money. No seating policy is posted and you can't talk down to the customer and expect the to know the policies when they want to sit. There were 4 open tables no one waiting. I spoke to the owner and he was apologeic and agreed with me. He said he'd post a sign. Has he? Don't know because I'll never ever go back again!

If anyone ever notices on this site, whenever somebody writes a bad review about THE PEQUIN, all of a sudden, a positive review shows up, as I said in my review before I think that the people writing the good reviews must work there or be friends of theirs. There are more bad reviews of this place, but they keep getting customers and reviews, but if they continue going the way it sounds like they are ,they will not be there forever, givin the bad reviews their getting. You cant treat people like the way they are, and continue to stay in business. Word of mouth and now the Internet will make or break you, dont cut of the hand that feeds you or it's your own fault!!
I would give zero stars if Yahoo would let me. By far, the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. Don't believe the hype! My friend and I were meeting 3 other friends and we arrived first. No host/hostess was at the door and there was no sign that said we needed to wait to be seated. So my friend and I took a table. The hostess brought us menus and we told her there were 3 more on the way. She didn't seem to mind at all. The waiter came out shortly and we ordered some beer and let the waiter know there were 3 others on their way. The waiter said that we can't have a table until our whole party is here. He sent us to a little bar area with stools (which were right by the bathrooms) while he went and got our beers. A couple minutes later 2 of our friends arrived, so I figured since a table will seat 4 or 5 (and that we had 4 of our party there), that we could get a table. The hostess told us that we could go ask the waiter. I asked her if she could go ask (since we were the customers). They huddled together at the bar and it looked like they were whispering so we couldn't hear what they were saying. The waiter came to speak to us and repeated their policy about the whole party needing to be there before we would be seated. The manager shortly followed. When we calmly explained we had 4 of our party there and the 5th was 10 minutes away, he told us that people LIE about that stuff (as a side note, there was nobody else waiting to be seated and there were a few open tables that would have been able to fit our party). He then asked my friend if he wanted to take it out to the parking lot and was getting confrontational, and told my friend that you are "entitled to your WRONG opinion" and that "we don't need your business". I had never eaten there before and I never will now (I also will not go to their other place called Pinky's). So, we were called LIARS, our OPINION DOESN'T MATTER, and OUR BUSINESS ISN'T NEEDED. Since they didn't need our business, they probably don't need yours either. We went across the street to the Dish instead...they treat their customers like they care.
